5 Ways to Harness the Full Moon’s Energy Into Your Life

Posted on: July 22, 2013

July 22 is another chance to see a supermoon. A supermoon is defined as “a new or full moon that occurs with the moon at or near (within 90 percent of) its closest approach to Earth in a given orbit.” This will be the 3rd supermoon of 2013, but a full moon, nonetheless. I believe that the full moon itself has an enormous amount of energy that is greatly overlooked, and therefore would like to introduce you to 5 ways you can harness the full moon’s power.

Here are some ways you can harness the energy of tonight’s full moon to better your life:

  1. Growth: With every full moon comes the period before when the moon is waxing or building up. Realize that the waxing period is a time of growth. It is a period of attracting new things, experiences, and people to your life. Take this time to learn more about yourself as you try and learn new things.
  1. Express Yourself: Whatever it is you enjoy doing, use the energy of the full moon to express yourself. Write a poem, bake a cake, scream, dance, say something you’ve been holding back on saying, whatever you want! Express yourself and let it out. The key here is to let your inhibitions go and do or say something you’ve been holding back on doing (or saying).
  1. Moving forward: The waning of the moon is the period after the full moon, when it begins to slowly regress back to a new moon. This period should be used to emotionally or physically rid or discard yourself of any unwanted things, ideas, habits, people, etc. from your life. It’s never to late to change so if you do not like something in your life now is the perfect time to move forward.
  1. Think positive: Whether it be writing it down or saying it out loud, positive thoughts will be multiplied during the full moon. Think of the positive things in your life and if you are having trouble figuring out what they are, I suggest writing them down.

Tip: You can do this by keeping a gratitude jar where you write the things down you are thankful for and place it inside the jar. Whenever you feel down or need a reminder the blessings in your life, just look in the jar for some positive reinforcement. Also, for those who are more technologically adept and would prefer to have their gratitudes stored on their phone, there is an iPhone app I like to use called Gratitude365 that allows you to keep a journal of the things you are thankful for.

  1. Meditate: Use the moon’s energy to mentally and emotionally open yourself up to the power that comes behind the full moon. I suggest doing a full moon meditation outside under the moon, but realize that this may not be possible for everyone. If not, find a place by a window where you can easily view the moon. However, if it is not possible to sit where you can see the moon, find a quiet place where you can visualize the moon, with all its power and brightness shining down upon you.

When you begin your meditation, focus on the power of the moon. Feel the moon glow through your body from head to toe, lighting an energy inside of you that you may not have been fully illuminated. After you feel focused, begin to turn your attention to any troubles or worries in your life that may be hindering you. Focus on one problem and bring awareness to this issue that has been bothering you. Feel the power inside you and the moon bring light to this problem you are focusing on. Be aware of your body and mind putting all its energy towards your struggle and visualize that problem disappearing from your life. With any meditation, remember to focus on your breathing as you slowly calm your mind. You have brought awareness to the wisdom inside of you, and you will feel empowered to move forward using the energy you have harnessed from yourself and the moon.

Continue with this heightened sense of awareness for the next few hours or days. If you feel disconnected or stressed out, meditation will help you control your mind. Remember: A heightened conscious and focus will calm the mind and the body.

Feeling Stressed?

Feeling stressed?

If you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, try this:

Put 1 or both hands over your chest, either directly over your heart or in the middle of your chest. Close your eyes and slowly continue to breathe in and out, taking long, deep breaths. Now think about something you are grateful for. This may be some thing or someone, just continue to focus on that idea in your mind as you continue to take long, deep breaths. Continue for a few minutes, or for as long as your heart desires. :)

Do you feel the rhythm? This is the rhythm your body moves to when your mind is connected with it. It’s essential to stop and realize our body can move out of rhythm if we forget what’s important in life and lose control of our thoughts. Remember: This is your body, and you have control over it.

Sometimes, when we realize what we are grateful for, our worries and problems will slowly disappear. Those problems will begin to seem trivial when looking at the bigger picture, and we remember just how beautiful life is.

Just keep breathing. It will help, I promise.
